 Merryde Loosemore is the proud
proprietor of 'Gately on Nile', a uniquely renovated grand
colonial guest house superbly situated on the shores of Lake
Victoria in Jinja, Uganda.
Inspired by her Great Aunt
Dorothy Gately, an adventurous spirit, once arriving in Uganda
Merryde instantly fell in love with the country and its people.
"The natural beauty of the country, the fabulous climate,
the warmth of the people and the relaxed lifestyle all contributed
to me feeling as if I had 'come home' she says. I saw the opportunity
of realising another lifelong dream to live and work in Africa.
My vision was to create a
'home away from home'. Something very different from what was
then available in the country. A tranquil retreat where excellent,
personal service and good food combine with elegant and comfortable
accommodation to create an "ultimate getaway". An intimate
conference venue for corporate clientele, the ideal week-end
away for families from Kampala, a convenient stop-over for those
travelling to and from Kenya and an overnight haven for tourist
and business travellers."
Gately on Nile opened in April
2000 after just 12 weeks of renovation from a very derelict property.
